Day 1
Arrival to Baku.
Meet with our guide at the airport.
Baku City Tour:
We begin our tour with a panorama of the city, viewed from a height of the Upland Park which clearly gives an idea of the contrasts and scale of the city that covers Baku Bay as a horseshoe. The town is in the shape of an amphitheater, descending down to the Caspian Sea. The tour covers the central part of Baku showing the most interesting historical and architectural sites, as well as visiting a favorite walking place for residents and guests – the Baku Boulevard.
This is followed by a visit to the “Old Town”, which consists of several dozen historical and architectural monuments, including the Palace of the Shirvanshahs, the symbol of Baku – Maiden Tower and the places of rest and stay of medieval merchants – Caravansarai.
We continue our tour after a 1-hour lunch break by bus to the central part of Baku in order to see the most interesting historical and architectural monuments.
Day 1 of the tour ends with a visit to the cultural complex named after Heydar Aliyev. Many of those who first saw the design project of the Center named after Heydar Aliyev could not believe that such a project could ever come true. In fact, even in theory, the construction of a building complex with such extraordinary design looks far from being realistic. The complex has several exhibitions that can be visited at the choice of the tourist (surcharge).
Overnight in Baku.
Day 2
Breakfast at the hotel.
09:30 Departure for Absheron Peninsula Tour: Gobustan is a Historical and Architectural Reserve under the open sky with unique cave paintings of Neolithic times, located 70 kilometers from Baku. There are more than 6 thousand petroglyphs dated over 12 thousand years old in Gobustan. The figures reflect the life of people in the Stone Age – hunting, recreation, dance, accompanied by the melodious sounds of “Gaval Dash” (a large rock with a deep resonant sound). Thanks to the huge rocks formed, there are many caves which served as a refuge for ancient people and helped them to survive during bad weather. Before the start of the tour to Gobustan we will visit the newly-built hi-tech museum of the same name. Only few people know that Azerbaijan ranks first place in the number of active mud volcanoes. These volcanoes are formations of a cone-shaped hill with a crater in the ground, and tourists have the opportunity to explore them during this tour. This is followed by a lunch break and later there will be an excursion to the Fire Temple Ateshgah and Yanardagh. The Temples of fire worshipers is an ancient religious building built on the site of natural gas output. This temple is a part of the Zoroastrian chronicles and symbolizes the cult of the Eternal Flame. Previously, pilgrims from all over the world stayed in the cells, however now is a museum with unique exhibits set up. Coming up next on the program, guests will visit the village Mehemmedli. Next to this small village is the Absheron peninsula where Mount Yanardagh is situated. The word “Yanar” in Azeri language means “burning”, and “Dagh” – “mountain” – this is real a burning mountain – not metaphorically, but literally. Previously, in Absheron there had been a lot of places where natural gas came out from the earth to the surface and ignited spontaneously, but with the start of mass extraction of oil and gas in Absheron these places started to disappear. At present, it is the only place of this unique natural phenomenon, with the output of natural gas to the surface.
