In this tour, explore the caucasus regions of Georgia and Armenia. Armenia is one of the oldest countries in the world and boasts some of Europe’s most stunning views. Whilst Georgia is another exquisite country with vineyards, old churches and green valleys. We will visit the cities of Tbilisi, Gori, Sighnagi, Yerevan and fascinating towns in both Georgia and Armenia. This 9 day tour of Georgia and Armenia is bound to enthral you with its beautiful landscapes, towns and dramatic mountainscape.

Day 01: Arrival to Tbilisi  

Arrival in Tbilisi International Airport. Meet guide and Company representatives. Transfer to the hotel and check in. Rest time. Breakfast at the hotel restaurant. Tbilisi City tour. It will be a few unforgettable hours of familiarisation with the capital. A charming town built in the 5th century along the twisting valley of Mtkvari River. All the places of interest are very close to each other, within a few minutes’ walk. Start the excursion from Metekhi (13th century) plateau, visit Narikala Fortress (4th century) which dominates the skyline of the Old Town. Continue to explore brick-domed underground sulfur baths (17th cen.) – the district of naturally hot mineral waters, cafe street Shardeni, Synagogue, mosque. Sioni Cathedral, the Anchiskhati Basilica of St Mary (7th century). Lunch in local restaurant. Walk along the Rustaveli Avenue, which is Tbilisi’s main thoroughfare and a must-see destination for anyone staying in Georgia’s capital city. Take a leisurely stroll along Rustaveli Avenue and see its beautiful buildings, buy souvenirs from local street vendors. Dinner at the Georgian traditional restaurant with folk show, (Georgian folklore has preserved ritual songs and dances of both pagan and Christian epochs. In 2001 the UNESCO recognised Georgian songs as a masterpiece of oral immaterial heritage.) Overnight in Tbilisi. (B/L/D)

Day 02: Ulishtsikhe – Gori

Breakfast at the hotel restaurant. Drive to Uplistsikhe cave town. It is the oldest cave town in Georgia. Back in the first millennium BC it was a flourishing city situated on the great east-west trade route, the Silk Road. Visitors can still walk among the ancient streets, rockcarved theatre, royal halls, pharmacy, pagan temples and Christian churches, while the remains of granaries and large clay wine vessels give us some clue as to the daily life of the inhabitants. Lunch in local restaurant in Gori. In Gori, you can visit the Stalin Museum, Leader of Soviet union. Explore the tiny house where he was born, his private railway carriage. Afterwards visit village Dzalisi, where an archaeological digs have revealed the remains of four palaces and hypocaustic baths, acropolis, swimming pool, administrative part, barracks for soldiers, water supply system and burial grounds. One of the villas is notable for its floor mosaics, which is the oldest one found in the Caucasus. The style of the mosaic dates to around AD 300. Dinner in a restaurant with international cuisine. Day 03: Signagi – Velistsikhe – Tsinandali

Breakfast at the hotel restaurant. Visit khaketi region. Kakheti is the most important wine region, land that that has been used for viticulture for thousands of years. Visit fortified town of Sighnaghi (18th century) – City of love. The town preserved its original image and now offers visitors stunning views of the surrounding Caucasus Mountains.Lunch in Velistiskhe. Proceed to Velistsikhe, where we will visit a local family winery and have lunch. Taste vine from “”Kvevri”. That are Clay jugs carved into the ground, where fermentation processes take place. The making of wine in Kvevri is the oldest known method of wine production. Approximately 7000 years ago, this method spread from the region around the Caucasus across the world. Science 2013 ancient Georgian wine making tradition is listed as UNSCO Intangible cultural heritage. Continue our journey to Tsinandali – where you can visit 19th century museum owned by well-known Georgian Royal Family member Aleksandra Chavchavadze. Enjoy walking in the beautiful garden. Day 04: Mtskheta – Ananuri – Gudauri

Breakfast at the hotel restaurant. Visit Mtskheta, Old capital of Georgia, which is a small neat town. Explore the rich history of this place and visit its cultural heritage: Jvari church(6th cen.) and Svetitskhoveli Cathedral (11th cen.) where the Robe of Christ is buried (UNESCO World Heritage sites). Lunch at the restaurant. Continue our drive along the Georgian Military Highway. On the way to Gudauri we visit the Ananuri fortress (17th century) located on the left bank of the Aragvi River and with a magnificent view of Jinvali Reservoir. We will overnight at winter Resort Gudauri that is located 2200 m above sea level; it is an alpean zone. Dinner at the hotel. (B/L/D)

Day 05: Gudauri – Kazbegi

Breakfast at the hotel restaurant. After drive to visit alpine, zone of the Caucasus Mountains. Continue our drive and reach Georgian Military Highway’s maximum altitude (2,395 m) meters at Jvari Pass. Drive along the Tergi River will bring us to Kazbegi – the main town in the region famous for its remarkable landscapes. This place is a unique natural wonder. Walk from Kazbegi through Gergeti village and drive up to the Gergeti Holy Trinity (14th century) church, stunningly located on a hilltop both overlooking the surrounding snowy peaks of the Greater Caucasus Mountains. Have picnic lunch in high monutains of the caucasus and enjoy with the amazing nature. Dinner at the Restaurant. (B/L/D)

Day 06: Sadakhlo – Lake Sevan

Breakfast at the hotel restaurant. Transfer to the Armenia-Georgia border Sadakhlo. Border Crossing. After border formalities, we will change the guide and bus. Arrival to Lake Sevan which is situated at an altitude above 1900 m. Its crystal-clear transparent water changes color several times during the day leaving unforgettable expressions. Lunch in local restaurant, where we will taste the famous variety of fish – lake trout, that is called ishkhan (which means prince). Visit Sevanavank Monastery, located on the peninsula that offers magnificent panoramic views of the lake and surrounding mountains. Arrival to Yerevan, which is one of the oldest cities in the world. Transfer to the hotel, leisure time. Dinner at the traditional restaurant with folk music, here each can taste delicious national dishes. (B/L/D)

Day 07: Yerevan City Tour

Breakfast at the hotel restaurant. Yerevan City Tour. Walk around city centre of Yerevan and see: the Republic Square Houses of Government, the Ministry of Communications and the Foreign Ministry and National Gallery. Then we will cross the street to Northern Avenue which was just opened in 2008. It connects the Opera and Ballet theatre with Republic Squar, the two hubs of Central Yerevan. WE will also admire the architectural complex Cascase, which is a sculpture park where we will find sculptures from Botero and other artistes. The park is also a part of Cafesjian Museum. The highest level of the complex gives an unforgettable view of Mount Ararat. A trip to the cave Monastery Geghard (5-13cc), which consists of three churches and a huge mausoleum carved into the mountain. Here we will get pleasure from the sounds of magnificent singing choir. Continuation of the tour will bring us to the pagan temple of Garni (77 AD) – only Hellenistic temple extant in the region. Inspection of “Temple of the Sun” and the ancient royal baths, situated on the edge of the picturesque valley. Lunch in a private house, where you’ll see the baking process of Armenian traditional flatbread, lavash. Return to Yerevan. Visit to “Ararat” brandy factory with excursion through the museum and brandy tasting. Visit the Gum market to buy and taste fresh, dried and marinated fruits and vegetables of your choice. Dinner in a restaurant with international cuisine. (B/L/D)

Day 08: Khor- Virap & Echmiadzin

Breakfast at the hotel restaurant. A trip to Ararat valley, visiting one of the most revered shrines of the Armenian people – the Monastery of Khor Virap, where for many years was imprisoned first patriarch of Armenia, St. Gregory the Illuminator. The monastery is located 200 meters away from the Turkish border and is considered to be a pilgrimage center for all Armenians, from where we can have the best view of Biblical Mount Ararat. Continue to Echmiadzin, the spiritual and administrative center of the Armenian Apostolic Church. Lunch in a local house. Visit the pearls of Armenian architecture – the Church of St. Hripsime (618AD) and the world’s first Christian Cathedral (301AD). Echmiadzin is a holy city of Armenia and is the seat of Catholicos of all Armenians, the head of Armenian Apostolic church. We will visit the unique museum of Echmiadzin Cathedral. Return to Yerevan. Free time for shopping – we advice to visit Dalma Mall, Yerevan Mall or Dalan Souvenir Shop, located in the heart of the city, which boasts a collection of handmade items and jewelry – amazing gifts made by Armenian masters for your family and friends. By the way, you can follow up your shopping tour in the outdoor coffee shop located right in the green backyard of Dalan. Dinner in a traditional restaurant. (B/L/D)
