From SGD 2148
Get ready to be charmed by the wilderness of Swedish Lapland! This area in northern Sweden is a magical place where you will experience the beauty of unspoiled nature, the fascination of Northern Europe’s winter and the warm hearts of the Sami people. Luleå, the capital of Swedish Lapland is a place of contrast where international atmosphere meets northern Swedish tradition and where a city enables you to access Lappish unspoiled nature in a heartbeat. The closeness to nature allows one to choose from a variety of thrilling winter activities. Luleå’s archipelago itself, in particular with its numerous islands, is an absolute must-see here!
Day 01: Arrival Luleå
Arrival in Luleå and transfer to your hotel to check-in. Your hotel for the next couple of days is located in the heart of Luleå, the central pedestrian area of Swedish Lapland’s capital. You have the rest of your day at leisure in order to discover the exciting and cozy corners of the city of Luleå. What about a stroll to the World Heritage Gammelstad church town? This town is the largest and best preserved example in Sweden of an old church town that has roots in the Middle Ages. The stone church dates back from the 1400’s and the many surrounding cottages have a long tradition that still lives today. Take the chance to explore the rich and interesting history of this northern city!
Accommodation at Clarion Sense or similar (2 nights)
Day 02: Leisure day in the city
Breakfast at the hotel. Today you have the chance to embrace Luleå’s accessibility to unspoiled nature, as a city in the far North of Sweden. Don’t forget to put on a hat on your way out and experience a day in the thrilling cold! One wonderful way to spend a few hours in the middle of Luleå town is the ‘Ice Road’, a road made completely of ice which through and around the city. At the start and end there are kicks which are for public use, which you can use to skate your way around and then leave them again for the next traveler. And if you are not comfortable on skates you can simply walk on the track with your normal shoes. Along the way there are waffle stands and picnic areas.
Day 03: Luleå – Camp Ripan
Breakfast at the hotel. Today you will take the train from Luleå to Kiruna train station, where you will continue on to Camp Ripan by private transfer. Camp Ripan is a rather unusual hotel. Kiruna municipality covers a great deal of land, so there is plenty of room to build outwards instead of upwards. This is why the beautiful and comfortable hotel rooms are cosy cabins with private entrances and amenities. At Camp Ripan you can experience the very best Kiruna has to offer in nature, activities and adventures. From a majestic mountain landscape to exciting architectural history, from the northern lights to dog sledding and snowmobile tours, Camp Ripan will provide you with the best of what Swedish Lapland has to offer. Tonight and the following two evenings you will go to the wonderful Camp Ripan restaurant for dinner, which offers a memorable culinary journey through the pantry of Swedish Lapland.
Accommodation at Camp Ripan or similar (3 nights)
Day 04: Aurora Spa
Breakfast at the hotel. Today you will visit the Aurora Spa in Kiruna – a unique spa in a unique region! Instead of blocking out the feeling of winter, this spa has built it right in! The Aurora Spa invites you to wander between in and out, heat and cold, soothing water and crystalline snow. Relax indoors and enjoy the winter- white landscape through panorama windows, or feel the cool caress of the polar winter across your cheek while enveloped by the warming comfort of the outdoor pool. If you are lucky, the colourful dance of the northern lights will entertain you. And true to its name, the Aurora Spa will showcase the opportunities and contrasts offered by the polar night.
Day 05: Ráidu – encounter the reindeers
Breakfast at the hotel. This will be another exciting day! You will go by snowmobile to visit the reindeer camp in the forest near Jukkasjärvi. The reindeer is one of the Sámi society’s most important culture bearers and resources. When you enter the reindeer enclosures to feed them, the reindeer will curiously come, greet you and most likely start eating out of your hand. The reindeer herder will then go on to catch some reindeer with a lasso and you lead them to the sled track were you have the chance to drive your own reindeer around a short circuit if you like. After the reindeer sledding part you will be invited into a lávvu, i.e. Sámi tent, where you will sit on reindeer skins around a sparkling and warming fire and learn more about the indigenous people of Fennoscandia, i.e. the Sámi people’s culture, history and their way of life.
