Music Festivals Around The World

May 20th, 2017

musicfestivals

If you’re an EDM junkie, you’ll probably know the big ones like EDC (Electric Daisy Carnival), Ultra Miami and Tomorrowland in Belgium. Obviously not all music festivals are catered towards EDM music. There are ones out there that provide experiences transcending mere music, some that cover other music genres, and then there are others in which the setting is the highlight. One way or another, here’s a list of some music festivals around the world to maybe plan your holiday around!

#1. Rainforest World Music Festival

This festival is located in the heart of Borneo, in Kuching, Sarawak, so expect a visceral experience in the middle of the jungle, with tropical weather to boot. The main music genre you’ll find here is world music, but that’s not all. On top of music, there are also plenty of workshops, and crafts and cultural displays. Expect to see a range of performances from local artists to well-known international artists from all around the world.

#2. Pukkelpop

Located in Belgium, this festival held in August is well known in Europe. Expect progressive and contemporary music set in sprawling large fields in a quaint little village called Kiewit. What sets this festival aside is the fact that the lineup is decided by the fans themselves, so if you’re feeling a bit more proactive this year and you want to have a say in the kind of music you’ll be listening to, head on over and vote for your favourites on their website.

#3. Trnsmt Music Festival

“TRNSMT is a truly metropolitan, non-camping festival, which stages global superstars alongside the very best of local talent. Glasgow, the UNESCO City of Music and cultural and artistic hub, provide the backdrop as TRNSMT interrupts Glasgow’s summer air with an electrifying celebration of music.

TRNSMT brings people together to enjoy the acts they already love, and undergo life-affirming experiences.

TRNSMT offer entertainment over two stages – Main Stage and King Tut’s Stage. Fans enjoy music, arts, culture, bars and restaurants as they customise their individual festival experience across the 3 days.

The event is easily accessible with national and international transport links to and from Glasgow, as well as a wealth of overnight accommodation on offer throughout the city and surrounding areas.”

#4. Burning Man

You may have heard of Burning Man, or you may not have. My introduction to it was through some Youtubers who attended the event. Held every year from the last Monday of August to the first Monday of September, it remains highly elusive and mysterious, due to its’ strict restrictions on photography and video recording. The one iconic feature of Burning Man is the ritual burning of a large wooden effigy, that has, in recent years, gotten bigger and taller. The event itself has been described by many as a week-long life changing cultural experience, so if that is something you are looking for, this would be the festival for you.

#5. Into the Valley

into-valley

Last but not least, here is a brand new music festival debuting this year. Into the Valley is probably the perfect festival for you if you’re looking for something uniquely picturesque and Instagram-worthy. The venue for the festival is a former quarry in Sweden with a cerulean pool at the bottom. Dare I say, the setting itself looks like a giant amphitheater carved out by mother nature? The music genre there is electronic, and there are also bars, food trucks and art installations set up for attendees to discover as they explore the scenic environment.

Have you heard of any of the above festivals? Attended any of them? Do share your experiences with us in the comments below!
