We know what you’re thinking: should you still travel out of the country amidst all the panic? According to the World Health Organization (WHO), it is still okay for you to travel, provided that you are visiting destinations that present little to no risk of the coronavirus, and take extra hygienic measures such as washing your hands and sanitising them with alcohol gel regularly.
With the flexible booking options recently that these airlines provide, you can still book the trip of your dreams and safeguard your options to meet your safety and wellbeing.
1. Singapore Airlines
Besides imposing a strict visitor screening process, Singapore Airlines (SIA) is also making room for Singapore residents to take a breather. The airline recently announced its plan to waive the change fees for all in-house and SilkAir flight tickets that were issued between 6 to 31 March 2020. The global travel waiver policy applies up to 31 March 2021. This means you have a whole year to decide on new dates if necessary, alter your flight itineraries, and, and actually make the trip.
2. Cathay Pacific
Cathay Pacific now provides unlimited free booking changes for tickets bought before 20 April 2020. Their new booking period is considerably longer than that of Singapore Airlines, making them a perfect choice for travellers who would need a bit more time to think about their upcoming holidays. Alternatively, it’s also for those who are already sure of where they’re heading but would need the unlimited change feature due to their busy schedules. Be sure to travel before or on 28 February 2021 to ensure that your ticket is valid.
3. Qatar Airways
The coronavirus management runs a little differently at Qatar Airways, as their booking charge waiver policy applies for only present ticket holders. Those who are already set to travel with the airline on or before 30 June 2020 will be able to change their travel dates for free, twice, provided that their new dates are set three days before their original departure date. Passengers unsure about changing their current plans can choose to receive a travel voucher applicable for their next booking.
Book a ticket with Emirates anytime before 31 March 2020, and you will get a year-long chance to edit your travel dates later without any additional charges. The only catch: you may have to pay for some fare difference if your new date incurs a higher ticket price later. Like Qatar Airways, this airline also provides the option of a redeemable travel voucher.
5. Air New Zealand
Those who prefer to fly with Air New Zealand will be pleased to know that the airline is rewarding a booking change waiver for international ticket buyers. Just buy your ticket before 31 March 2020 to get redeem it. Note: you may still pay for service fee and fare difference if your new itinerary falls on a day in which your booking class is full. Passengers who have purchased their seats before 5 March 2020 are not eligible for this waiver, as their tickets are non-refundable.
6. United Airlines
American company United Airlines was also quick to jump on the bandwagon. They are now allowing their passengers to change their flight within the same class for up to a year from the dates of their original tickets if they buy any type of ticket between 3 to 31 March 2020. Need to cancel your flight booked during this special period? You get to retain the value of your ticket, and bring it forward into a new one without any additional charges, for a year after the date of your original ticket.
Deciding to continue your trip to risk-free destinations in South America soon? Then LATAM is the best company to fly with.
