Things to know before you travel from Singapore to Turkey

If you're planning your first trip to Turkey from Singapore, there are a few practical things worth knowing upfront. This guide covers what most travellers search for before booking their Turkey holiday: visas, travel tips, weather, what to wear, halal food, and more.

Whether you're travelling as a family, couple or solo, this is the place to start.

Do Singaporeans need a visa for Turkey?

No. Singapore passport holders can travel to Turkey visa-free for up to 90 days*. You just need to have six months’ validity on your passport and at least one blank page. No application forms. No fees. We just need to book your flights and you are good to go.

If you're looking for your parents or relatives from other countries, we can help check their visa eligibility and arrange supporting documents if needed.

Direct flights from Singapore to Istanbul take around 11 to 12 hours.

There are direct options with Turkish Airlines and Singapore Airlines. Most of our clients prefer overnight flights so they land in Istanbul in the morning and can start their itinerary after check-in.

Best time to visit Turkey from Singapore

If you want to avoid extreme cold or heat, the best times are:

  • April to June (spring, mild and green)
  • September to November (autumn, cooler but still sunny)

Winter can be lovely if you're visiting Cappadocia for snow views and hot air balloons. Summer is great for coastal areas like Antalya and Bodrum but can feel quite hot inland.

We’ll recommend which month works best based on the type of trip you’re planning.

What to wear in Turkey as a Muslim traveller

Most major cities and tourist areas in Turkey are very open. You’ll see a mix of modest wear and Western clothing.

For mosques, both men and women are expected to dress modestly. Women should bring a scarf to cover their hair. Long pants and covered shoulders are standard. Outside of mosques, modest wear is appreciated but not enforced.

Comfortable shoes are a must. Cobblestone streets are common, especially in Istanbul and Cappadocia.

Is halal food easy to find in Turkey?

Yes. Almost all restaurants in Turkey serve halal food by default. There’s no need to search endlessly for halal signs or apps.

If you’re a vegetarian or have dietary restrictions, just let your travel consultant know and they’ll help pick places that cater to your needs.

We include halal meals in all our Turkey packages.

Using your phone and SIM card in Turkey

You can get a local SIM at the airport or in any major city. Turkcell and Vodafone are the most common providers. Prices vary but expect to pay around 200 to 300 lira for a tourist SIM with data.

Currency and spending tips

Turkish Lira, Turkish Money

The currency in Turkey is the Turkish Lira (TRY). You can exchange money at the airport, in malls, or at money changers in Istanbul.

Credit cards are accepted in most restaurants and shops, but it’s good to carry some cash for smaller towns, markets or taxi rides.

Avoid exchanging too much money at the airport unless it is absolutely necessary. Better rates are available in town.
