Family trip to Gold coast this November school holidays

The Gold Coast in Australia has always been a dream destination for families from Singapore and it doesn’t take much to figure out why. The place has world-class theme parks and golden beaches where you can build sandcastles for hours with your kids. And the best thing is that flights from Singapore are surprisingly reasonable if you plan ahead.

That’s exactly why the upcoming November school holidays are the perfect time to make the trip. Utilize this school break to give your family an adventurous trip that they’ll never forget.

Since November in Australia is early summer, so you're looking at warm weather without the intense December heat which is perfect for families who want to spend time outdoors without melting.

Let’s walk you through on what makes Gold Coast an ideal destination for your family this November school holidays.

Are there theme parks worth visiting with family on the Gold Coast?

Warner bros Movie World theme park

Dreamworld is probably what your kids are already talking about and is the most visited destination by all our clients who visit the Gold Coast. The Tiger Island shows are genuinely impressive, and there is a huge variety of rides that is suitable for kids of all ages.

The Giant drop still makes grown adults scream and there's also the DreamWorks Experience where younger kids can meet Shrek and the Madagascar crew. You can easily spend a full day here with your family without anyone getting bored. Instead, we think it’ll be much harder getting your kids to leave this place.

Warner Bros. Movie World is a glimpse of what it would feel like if you were on a movie set while Sea World combines theme park thrills with small fun lessons on marine life. The dolphin and seal shows are classics for a reason and the Jet Rescue ride gives you a decent adrenaline rush without feeling too overwhelming for younger children.

Most families plan and try to visit all three parks in a single day which is very exhausting and leaves families unfulfilled. So while planning itineraries for our clients, we ask them their two most preferred parks (or all three if they’re interested) and plan them separately so that they don’t feel rushed and enjoy them fully.

What are some good beaches on the Gold Coast?

Surfers Paradise is the most visited beach but if you have kids around, the crowds, the party and loud music can be a bit much. Burleigh Heads is where local families actually go since the beach is well patrolled and even the kids can learn to bodysurf since the waves are manageable.

You can also book a family surf lesson at Currumbin and the instructors are very friendly and know how to work with kids. Main Beach near Southport is another good option if you want calmer water. We also recommend bringing along buckets and spades for building some sandcastles with your family.

What are nearby places to go from the Gold Coast with family?

sunshine coast hinterland

The Gold Coast Hinterland is a 30-minute drive from your hotel, but it feels like a different world. Springbrook National Park has walking trails that are suitable for most people with little to average fitness levels, while the Natural Bridge waterfall is the kind of place that makes kids forget about their phones and devices for a while.

You can do the treetop canopy walk on Tamborine Mountain or visit some wineries while the kids play, or even just enjoy the cooler mountain air. Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary deserves a full day. We know it’s a very tourist-popular spot and you can expect crowds there, but watching your kids hand-feed kangaroos never gets old.

Where to stay in the Gold Coast with family?

Surfers Paradise has the most hotel options, but it's also the most expensive and busiest. It does have quite a busy nightlife so you or your family might not get a really peaceful night's sleep. Broadbeach gives you beach access plus easy walking to restaurants and shops, without quite as much chaos.

Burleigh Heads is perfect if you want a more relaxed vibe. There are fewer high-rise hotels, but plenty of holiday apartments that give you space to spread out, relax and even prepare your own meals if you want.

Family rooms or connecting rooms make everything easier, especially if you're traveling with kids of different ages who have different bedtimes. Most hotels can arrange cribs, high chairs, and other baby equipment if you ask in advance, which is why we advise not packing everything from Singapore.

Since the November school holidays are the perfect opportunity to plan a trip to the Gold Coast, the prices might fluctuate towards the high side, leaving you wondering what to book. Things to keep in mind when travelling to the Gold Coast from Singapore

Since other Singapore families might also have the same idea of planning a trip to the Gold Coast, places might fill up during school holidays, which is why we recommend booking in advance and planning your trip accordingly.

Pack for changeable weather. November can have the occasional shower, but it usually passes quickly. Most Gold Coast attractions offer multi-day passes if you're planning to hit several theme parks. But we still recommend calculating everything beforehand as sometimes individual tickets work out better, especially if you're looking to visit and explore a single park.

Since the Gold Coast has a lot of activities and in different spots, we recommend planning a trip of around a week instead of 4-5 days so that you don’t have to pack and unpack every time you move to a new location.
